Support for UGA Adjustments to Balance Housing and Industrial Land Needs
Dear Clark County Community Planning,
As you consider adopting new land use maps for Clark County, please know that I support modifications to the Comprehensive Growth Management Plan that will allow necessary UGA expansion into adjacent farmland where city infrastructure can efficiently serve new housing. Parcels currently designated as farm use that border the UGA but are no longer operated as working farms would be better used to develop affordable housing choices. We need a variety of housing options that meet people where they are at various life stages: housing for young professionals; multigenerational housing; and homes that let seniors age in place.
I also believe we must preserve undeveloped land close to freeways and major roadways within the existing UGA for industrial and employment uses which is critical for job growth, the expedient movement of goods and freight, and long-term economic balance.
This approach will clearly support:
• Developing housing thoughtfully near schools and employment centers, which reduces commute times and carbon emissions by shortening commutes;
• Retaining industrial corridors with easy access to I-5, I-205, and SR-14 for regional transportation which will attract new industries and employers to Clark County; and
• Ensuring residents can enjoy environmental benefits, like better air quality, when residential neighborhoods are separated from industrial corridors. I urge the County to adopt growth alternatives that prioritize growing jobs in logical locations and developing attainable housing near quality schools and regional amenities.
Your vote for a balanced growth plan will enable residents to live, work, shop, and play within their community.
Sincerely,
